LBCD Music Department was established in October 2022 with the appointment of Miss Avoni Odyuo as the Music Director. It is in the pioneering stage of establishment, and while it is still a work in progress, the team has progressively developed a system and various sub-groups to facilitate the smooth functioning of the department, to bless and minister to the congregation through enhancing church worship through music.
There are currently 6 sectors in LBCD - Rilan/Mon, Duncan/Court, Central, KLOK, Burma Camp, and Nagarjan. To enhance the congregational hymn singing in every sector, Sector Khensokaiden (Sector cantors) was established in October 2022. Each sector has two or three main Khensokaiden who act as the sector coordinator and representative, in which they report and receive instruction/information from the Music Director. Consecutively, the Khensokaiden (main cantors) are responsible for mobilizing capable and willing singers in their respective sectors to aid them in the weekly Sunday services. The Sector Khensokaiden is also responsible for coordinating with the pianists for better collaboration and effective worship service.
Psalms 150 encourages us to Praise God with ram’s horn, lyre, harp, tambourine, dancing, strings, flutes, cymbals, and most importantly our voices! In obedience to the Word of God, the Music Department desires to worship God with every musical talent and ability He has blessed the church with. In addition, “everything that breathes” includes people from all walks and stages of life, and our department aims to be inclusive of all ages, and giftings.
“Let everything that breathes sing praises to the Lord! Praise the Lord!”
-Psalms 150:6
Sanctuary choir is the principal choir comprising youth and young adults, ages 17 to 40. We welcome both married and unmarried individuals who are fully committed to sing for Jesus. Sanctuary Choir members are expected to strive towards musical excellence and spiritual growth with a desire to improve, have a growth mindset and avoid stagnation. The aim is not perfection but progress.
Symphony of worship was formed on 19th February 2023 and is LBCD children’s choir with a current strength of 100 members. Just like a symphony requires hundreds of musicians and singers with instruments from various family (strings, woodwind, brass, percussion etc) and multiple movements, symphony of worship aims to offer our cacophony of sounds to Lord Jesus as a sweet fragrance with the hope that He turns our dissonance to harmonious melody for His glory!
Ethungkhen means “Psalms” or “Song of praise”, and it is the goal of Ethungkhen choir to sing praises for the Lord Jesus till He returns. For this reason, there is no age limit or aptitude test in Ethungkhen Choir, and we welcome all music lovers from age 18 to 80 years and beyond. The main goal of Ethungkhen choir is to serve Jesus and the congregation, and the secondary goal is to minister to the choir members by providing an avenue to engage their minds, fellowship with fellow believers, and receive spiritual feeding.
Faith women’s choir was formed in 2023 comprising of women from all walks of life - homemakers, professionals, musicians, teachers, mothers, grandmothers, married and unmarried etc., - specifically women who have a heart of worship. As women with many responsibilities, it is a miracle that the choir members were able to faithfully attend rehearsals, and their faithfulness in doing so resulted in God blessing each one of us in ways we couldn’t have imagined. Hence, the name Faith women’s choir was coined as a testament to God’s working in the lives of these women of faith.
By the grace of God, LBCD is blessed with plenty of young talents who are learning violin and guitar. This ministry was started with a vision to encourage and involve these gifted musicians to use their instrumental skills for the edification of the body of Christ, and for His glory.
God has blessed LBCD with around 30 pianists who are fervently serving every Sunday and enhancing the worship service through their hymn accompaniment. The pianist fellowship was formed to facilitate fellowship and familiarity between the pianists across sectors so that we might be able to relationally connect and spiritually to these dedicated musicians. In addition, the department also utilizes this platform to provide training programs to aid and support musical skill development for the edification of the weekly church services. In this way, the LBCD pianist fellowship aims to care for the pianists holistically so that we may worship God with a true heart and skillful hands.
Music Department functions as a support ministry (in terms of music and worship) to all the various departments and ministries in LBCD. Therefore, we believe in the active participation of every subgroup of the Music department in outreach ministries and other ministry activities. Training programs are also a priority in the Music Department to ensure musical excellence in our offering to the Lord Jesus, however, we seek progress and not perfection, growth rather than flawlessness. Musical events are organized with the sole intention for the edification of the body of Christ, and not for musical exhibition of talent. In this regard, the Music department wishes to use every opportunity and outreach event to reach out to the lost souls, weary souls, and hungry souls and guide them to the Throne of the Lamb of God.
